Yet again, the Media have misinterpreted the Government’s plans regarding Wood Burning Stoves! They are not being banned. What the Government, and the stove industry wants, is to reduce old, inefficient open-fireplaces and old, inefficient wood burning stoves. They also want to stop the selling of traditional coal [not smokeless coal] and damp wood.
They want customers to purchase the latest DEFRA (strict on emissions) and Ecodesign-Ready (even stricter on emissions) stoves and to burn dry/seasoned wood only.
Wood is a major source of renewable heat energy – if burned efficiently it produces virtually no smoke. Replacing fossil fuels with sustainably sourced wood offets CO2 emissions. Please also see the latest news from HETAS on the Government’s plans - www.hetas.co.uk/clean-air-strategy-2019/
